I’m Amanda DeStefano, founder of Harbor Consulting & Advocacy of the Outer Banks. For nearly two decades, my work has spanned classrooms in the United States to leadership roles in International Baccalaureate schools across South America, Europe, and Asia. Along the way, I’ve specialized in building inclusive programs, coaching educators and school leaders, and designing data-driven systems that improve outcomes for students of all abilities.
With a Master’s degree in Special Education from Johns Hopkins University and extensive experience as both a teacher and administrator, I bring a deep understanding of the special education process, students’ and parents’ rights, and how to leverage each child’s unique strengths. I’ve also partnered with state and local education entities, giving me a well-rounded perspective on how families can best navigate the system.
My passion lies in helping students uncover their potential and equipping parents with the knowledge and tools they need to advocate with confidence. My mission is simple: to ensure every child has equitable access to the education they deserve, while families feel supported and empowered every step of the way. At Harbor Consulting & Advocacy, I combine professional expertise with a personal commitment to helping every learner thrive.
At Harbor Consulting & Advocacy, we are dedicated to advancing access and equity in education by helping families navigate the often complex special education process. We empower parents and caregivers with the knowledge, tools, and confidence they need to advocate effectively for their children. By fostering collaboration between families and schools, we ensure that every learner’s unique strengths and needs are recognized, valued, and supported.
Our mission is to stand alongside families as trusted partners, working to create educational environments where all students can reach their fullest potential.
Our vision is to build an educational landscape where equity is the standard and every learner has the resources and support they need to flourish. We strive to dismantle barriers within the special education system, ensuring that families feel empowered, schools are collaborative partners, and students are given the tools to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. By guiding families and advocating for inclusive practices, we aim to foster communities where every child’s potential is recognized and celebrated.
Every child should get what they need to learn and grow – to feel welcome, included, and truly belong at school.
I’m committed to a holistic approach by addressing your child’s academic and social-emotional goals.
Empowerment is key. I strive to equip clients with tools and insights for self-advocacy.
